A man whose son died after playing video games for long periods is campaigning for greater awareness of the risk posed by their excessive use.

Chris Staniforth, 20, who would play his console for up to 12 hours, died in May from deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

His father David believes the condition may have been triggered by long gaming sessions.

The problem with this isn't that he was gaming. The problem is that he sat on his arse for up to 12 hours without moving. Would this be news if someone read a book for 12 hours straight?

12 hours - he had it lucky. I sit on my backside for 30 hours a day, then have to come home and plough the fields using a bit of old rope and a stick.

You get a rope and a stick. We had to plough the field wi us tongs and then and went to what we called home but was a sloppy manure pit where we slept for 30 seconds a day before going back to the field.
